Paul DeMarco, MD
Dr. DeMarco was raised in Charleston, SC. He attended college at University of Virginia, medical school at USC School of Medicine in Columbia, and returned to UVa to complete a residency and chief residency in general internal medicine. He became interested in the uninsured as a resident and, along with many others, helped start the Charlottesville Free Clinic. He served as the first president of the clinic’s board from 1992-3. He moved to Marion, SC in 1993 and practiced for 14 years in a group practice that is owned by the Marion Regional Healthcare System. In August 2007, he moved from private practice to academics. He accepted a position as the first Director of Rural Community Health Programs at Francis Marion University in Florence. He also travels regularly during the school year to Columbia to teach students and residents at USC School of Medicine. He has been involved in the single payer movement since 2006 and is one of the founders of South Carolinians for Universal Health Care.
